ART & DESIGN - LEVEL 2

The Level 2 in Art & Design is designed to provide an introduction to art and design. It has been developed to support students who would benefit from a more practical approach to learning, providing them with transferrable skills, knowledge and self-confidence to enable them to progress to further art and design education and employment within the creative industries. The course is suitable for school leavers and adults who would like a career in Art and Design and related subjects or who are progressing from level one courses. You will study the following mandatory units: * Introduction to materials, processes and technical skills in art & design * Introduction to contextual research in art and design * Introduction to drawing skills * Introduction to communication skills in art and design * Solving 2D creative problems * Solving 3D creative problems * Solving time-based creative problems * Developing and producing a personal project in art and design These units offer an introduction to the principles of drawing, visual research and design processes. You will have access to a range of workshops with specialist artists/tutors working in a variety of two and three dimensional materials and media, as well as the well-equipped computer suite. The course will involve visits to galleries and exhibitions, opportunities to meet practising artists and short field trips. You will be working alongside other students from the surrounding area, some mature students and those embarking on higher level courses. This combines to create the exciting and visually stimulating working atmosphere of the Art and Design Department. All students aged 16-19 are required to study functional English and maths qualifications or GCSE Maths and/or English if not already awarded a GCSE grade C/4 or higher in these subjects.
