Studying Health and Social Care (HSC) will allow you to study a range of health, early-years care and education and social care issues. It is a varied and interesting subject to study which would give you a good base of knowledge for progressing into careers in the HSC sector or onto further study at university for a diverse range of subjects from Midwifery and Social Work to Teaching and Speech Therapy. You will learn about the legislation and rights underpinning service provision and develop an understanding of issues affecting the health and social sector, such as how government funding affects the provision of new drugs and treatments for diseases such as cancer. You will have the opportunity to develop skills that will enable you to make an effective contribution to employment within the care sector or in other areas. Skills such as communication will be studied with an in depth look at the theories and practice behind effective communication. You will plan and carry out a small scale health promotion and gain a recognized First Aid qualification. You will carry out an extended piece of research which could be based around your future study plans or career interests. The mixture of assessment methods which include extensive coursework and exams is an ideal preparation for further study having developed skills such as research, evaluation and exam technique.
