Accounting AS level

UPDATED 20161107 09:02:24

WHY STUDY ACCOUNTING? Financial information is the life-blood for all commercial and not-for-profit organisations. If resources are not used efficiently and effectively, then the needs of their respective stakeholders will not be met. Therefore, this programme of study develops a clear understanding of the importance of maintaining effective accounting information systems as well as raising an awareness of their limitations, through the examination of current financial issues and modern business practices. It looks at how to place a value on the worth of an organisation and how to measure its level of performance. It considers who should set the rules of accounting - should it be the profession itself or is there a need for the intervention of government. Accounting builds a capacity for analytical, methodical and critical thought which would serve as an end in itself, as well as a basis for the further study of accounting and other subjects.
