This course may be provided for a small group of students who are clear in their aim to follow a health related degree course such as nursing. It would be the main course in a programme of study providing wide ranging coverage of the health sector. This would depend on science qualifications offered in school. Students wishing to follow a career in the NHS such as nursing, midwifery or physiotherapy need a science element in addition to Health and Social Care. Students will study thirteen units of work which would include a significant focus on science as well as health and social care: Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care Unit 3: Anatomy and Physiology Unit 4: Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs Unit 6: Work Experience in Health and Social Care Unit 7: Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care Unit 8: Promoting Public Health Plus five optional units selected from: Infection Prevention and Control, Scientific Techniques for Health Science, Psychological Perspectives, Physiological Disorders, Microbiology for Health, Caring for Individuals with Dementia, Nutritional Health, Understanding Mental Well-being, Medical Physics Applications in the Health Sector, Genetics, Biomedical Science, Biochemistry for Health, Complementary Therapies for Health and Well-being, Health Psychology depending on numbers and staffing.
