The syllabus is similar in structure to GCSE. Students continue working on a range of different passages and stories to practice for the unseen translation part of the examination. In doing this, they will review the grammar learnt for GCSE and cover any new points as they arise. They also study two literature set texts which give first-hand experience of ancient literature and develop awareness of Roman civilisation. There is a further opportunity to examine in some depth any aspect of the subject by completing an independent research project. Language topics help students develop their logical problem-solving skills, and enhance understanding of all languages, including English. Literature topics give students the opportunity to write in a more interpretative style. It is the variety of skills which Latin offers that is perhaps its greatest attraction.
