The Chemistry department at St Bede's offer AS/A2 OCR Chemistry B (Salters) This AS/A level Chemistry specification has been tailored to follow on from either GCSE Chemistry or Additional Science and will develop a candidate's knowledge and understanding in a synoptic way, providing a pathway to further study, employment and general career development. Studying the GCE in Chemistry should be a practical experience for students. The specifications contain practical activities embedded within each unit, to reflect the nature of chemistry, and students displaying competence in practical skills at the end of the A2 course will be awarded the separate 'Practical endorsement in Chemistry'. This will increase students' enjoyment and understanding of chemistry together with providing them with the skills needed to study science at higher education. The specifications are designed to thus motivate both teachers and students and to encourage more students to study chemistry at a higher level. Students will study aspects of chemistry that are often in the media and affect their lives. They will need to have the necessary knowledge and understanding to explain many different aspects of contemporary chemistry.
