A modular Level 4 course in applied chemistry, this course is suitable for employees from science based industries and for those who wish to improve their science qualifications but are unable to study full time. The course is designed to increase knowledge and skills in the subject of chemistry. There are 8 units.The five core units are -Inorganic chemistry -Organic chemistry -Physical chemistry -Chemical laboratory techniques -Analysis of scientific data and information 3 optional units must be chosen. This is done in consultation with students and employers. A full list of units is available on the Edexcel website. Possible options include: -Inorganic chemistry of crystal structures and transition metal complexes -Organic chemistry of aromatic and carbonyl compounds -Physical chemistry of spectroscopy, surfaces and chemical and phase equilibria -Industrial chemistry -Environmental chemical analysis -Polymer chemistry -Analytical chemistry -Environmental monitoring and snalysis -Environmental management and conservation -Work-based investigation -Nanotechnology -Laboratory management -Quality assurance and quality control -Work-based experience -Personal and professional development -Employability skills By studying for an additional year students can convert their Level 4 HNC Diploma into a Level 5 HND Diploma by taking a further 8 units - two of which will be built into the HNC programme.
