This qualification is equivalent in size to one GCE A-level. BTECs embody a fundamental learner-centre approach to the curriculum. This course is assessed through a combination of internal, external and synoptic assessment methods. The BTEC Business Extended Certificate is for students who are interested in learning about the business sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a business-related career in the future. The aim of this course is to provide practical skills that may be transferred to a business environment. Students will study real-life, work-based case studies and complete projects and assignments, which contribute to achieving each unit studied. The assessment process is on-going, so it allows the student to analyse and improve their own performance. Coursework units are assessed in a variety of ways - presentations, observation records, witness statements, written reports, role plays and time-limited exercises. A huge commitment of independent time from the student outside the classroom is vital for this course. This qualification contains a total of four units of which three are mandatory, namely Exploring a Business, Developing a Marketing Campaign and Personal and Business Finance. The fourth unit will be an optional unit of work which focuses on Recruitment and Selection within the business environment. BTEC Business will give you enrichment opportunities including visits and practical hands on, work-related experiences. Activities will include visits and case studies relating to real life businesses. Guest speakers will be invited in to talk to students about a range of key business areas on a regular basis.
