This is an AS / A2 modular course consisting of exams in Year 12 and Year 13. A minimum A grade in GCSE Mathematics is required to study Mathematics. A minimum A* grade in GCSE Mathematics is required to study Further Mathematics. A-Level aims to develop your understanding of the subject in a way that promotes confidence and provides enjoyment. It will enable you to build bridges between different areas of Mathematics, thus facilitating it as an effective tool for communication. You will be encouraged to develop an awareness of the relevance of Mathematics to other fields of study, to the society around you, and the world of business, enterprise and work. You will learn to take a significant measure of responsibility towards your own mathematical development. The mathematics course consists of four core and two optional modules. Most students at DGSB study core 1-4, mechanics M1 and statistics S1 modules. Pure Mathematics topics you will study include algebra, trigonometry, calculus and co-ordinate geometry. By opting for Mathematics and Further Mathematics you will study an additional three modules of pure maths and three optional modules. This is ideal for anyone who wishes to study Mathematics, Physics or any other subject with a heavy mathematical content at university. It is also possible for students, who wish to go to Oxbridge or other Universities that specialise in Mathematics, to sit the AEA and STEP exams in addition to the two A levels.
