The course is designed for students who will be taking their three higher-level subjects in other curriculum areas and who will not require Mathematics as a major component in their future studies/career plan. Students who intend to follow the Mathematics Studies course at Dane Court will be required to have attained a minimum of grade C at GCSE Mathematics. The Mathematical Studies course is intended to consolidate and extend the student?s knowledge and skills already acquired in their previous Mathematics courses. It is our intention to increase the student?s confidence in this subject and to develop an appreciation of Mathematics both as a useful tool and for its abstract beauty. We intend that Mathematical Studies will be excellent preparation for students who intend to follow a wide range of higher education courses ? but we acknowledge that students who follow Mathematical Studies will be using the subject of Mathematics as a secondary or supportive level to their main chosen area of study. Nevertheless the course content of Mathematical Studies will be rigorous and comprehensive enough to support students who wish to follow career paths in applied sciences, business or financial sectors.
