Painting and Drawing - All Abilities

This is a practical course. You will be supported in your work by the tutor who will demonstrate each new technique or theme. This course may include the following: Materials: Pencils of varying grades Coloured pencils Watercolour Pencils Pastels Charcoal Watercolour Paints Acrylic Paints Techniques: Shading with a variety of grades of pencil Drawing accurate shapes by using your pencils as a measuring tool Depicting perspective and ellipses Colour theory and mixing using the three primary colours Limited palette Laying and blending pastels Painting a variety of washes in watercolour to include flat, graduated and variegated Glazing - watercolour and acrylic Wet into wet Creating textures in watercolour and painting in impasto in acrylic Using a painting knife Subjects may include: Landscape and all it's components - sky, trees, rivers/water, shrubs and flowers, grass, buildings, animals - this will be from photographs and life Seascapes - waves, beach, cliffs, boats People, animals and birds Still life - flowers, fruit and vegetables, bowls, vases, material, clothing. You will also look at artists both old and contemporary to place the subjects in a wider context, provide inspiration and expand art history knowledge.
