Course shortcode: PHT01 A Level Photography is a creative and practical course which combines the technical aspects of digital image making with the aesthetic qualities of images. As you develop an understanding of the language of photography, you'll learn to express your ideas through this medium, critique other photographers' work and realise your own art. The course promotes extensive personal exploration, analysis, experimentation and expression through a series of tutor-assisted tasks and responses to both internally and externally-set themes. You will document all of this in sketchbooks that will be submitted at the end of each unit. These will contain sustained investigations which demonstrate the origin and full development of your ideas, alongside examples and explanations of processes and techniques undertaken during your study. You will also be required to document historical, contemporary and cultural influences on your work, along with any relevant visits to photography exhibitions, lectures and workshops. Upon completion of the course, you can expect to have a deeper understanding of the visual world across different times and cultures, whilst being introduced to the diverse roles and functions of photography in modern life.
