Course shortcode: HST01 A Level History is regarded by many universities as a reliable gauge of a student's ability. It is a core subject that requires a significant range of academic skills, and a good grade at A Level can open the door to a range of higher education courses and employment opportunities. You will study a variety of topics that investigate key issues throughout history, such as the impact of Nazi policies on German people and the growth of the USA into the world's leading superpower. Alongside this, you will produce an extended piece of coursework on an agreed topic that interests you. There is the chance for you to visit world-class museums, the Supreme Court and Parliament as part of your studies too. It is not necessary to have studied history at GCSE to undertake this A Level, but you will benefit by achieving a good grade in GCSE English. The course will encourage the development of analytical and essay writing skills that are essential for academic success. Many of our students go on to study History at top universities, including The University of Manchester, University of Birmingham, Bristol University, the University of Exeter and University of Cambridge.
