This qualification is ideal for candidates who want to work as electricians or other related electrical disciplines in the building services engineering sector. This qualification does not make candidates fully qualified electricians however forms the first part of the technical requirements required to become fully qualified as a JIB registered electrician. Opportunities within the industry allow the student to further diversify into installation and maintenance, renewable energy engineers or other related industries such as alarm and telecom engineers. The Level 2 qualification is designed for new entrants to the electrical industry, providing them with the basic skills and experience they need to progress within the electrical sector. Students will study a combination of practical techniques and theory based applications that reinforce the practical elements of the course and undertake a wide variety of standard electrical installation work. As well as learning the theory behind electricity and reasons for selecting the right equipment, students will learn a large variety of installation methods and use industrial and commercial techniques within a workshop environment. A variety of different wiring systems, such as conduit, tray and trunking will be learnt along with various methods of wiring and circuit control. The student will also learn the safety critical tasks to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
