Geography addresses many of the issues facing 21st Century societies. It is an exciting subject for those who enjoy exploring a wide diversity of topics and places. You will have the opportunity to visit a variety of locations in order to apply geographical ideas to places and to investigate the interaction between people and their environment. Planet Earth is ‘contested’ in a whole variety of ways, and you will have the opportunity to explore many of these issues. PAPER 1 Dynamic Landscapes You will study the following topics: • Tectonic Processes and Hazards and their management • Coastal landscapes, processes and their management • The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity • The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security • Climate Change Futures PAPER 2 Dynamic Places You will study the following topics: • Globalisation – what it is and its causes • The impact of globalisation on societies and cultures • The emergence and role of global superpowers, such as the USA , EU and China • Shaping Places - variations in the characteristics of populations and places within the UK • Global Development – human rights, health and the role of interventions such as military and aid PAPER 3 Geographical Issue This is based on a geographical issue which links to topics in paper 1 and paper 2. Fieldwork It is required that you undertake a minimum of FOUR days of fieldwork over the two years of the course. At least THREE days of this will be a residential visit to a location within the UK.

Name: Geography - A level Qualification title: GCE A Level in Geography Qualification type: Assessment You will undertake a fieldwork investigation of your choice and write up a report of between 3000-4000 words. It is 20% of the overall assessment. All written examinations are at the end of year 2. Papers 1 and 2 are both 2 hour examinations. Paper 3 is a 1 hour 45 minute examination.
