A Level Chemistry

UPDATED 20161101 16:25:20

Introduction: Chemistry is everywhere in the world around you! It's in the food you eat, clothes you wear, water you drink, medicines, air, cleaners... you name it. Chemistry sometimes is called the "central science" because it connects other sciences to each other, such as biology, physics, geology and environmental science. Students who study chemistry to A-level might ultimately work in the chemical industry, become doctors, dentists, pharmacologists and environmental scientists. They are able to work in areas as diverse as publishing, technical writing, patent law, intellectual property law, finance and investment analysis as well as in the public services, academia and teaching. Build on your KS4 studies: In the first year the topics studied will be an extension of GCSE work. Old friends such as the mole, atomic structure and chemical bonding will be studied, but in more detail. The course includes physical, inorganic and organic chemistry. Interests and skills required We want independent learners with a keen interest in the application of Chemistry in everyday life as well as a passion to study the theoretical and practical aspects. You should be passionate about furthering your knowledge of a variety of Chemistry related topics both inside and outside of School. How it is taught: Chemistry is an experimental subject and is taught by using practical experiences to link theory to reality. A minimum of 12 Practical Activity Groups must be completed but usually a double lesson each week is allocated for practical work. The Course we follow is OCR A Level in Chemistry A (H432).
