Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) is a new qualification designed for students who have achieved a grade 4 or above at GCSE. It covers a diverse range of topics such as data analysis, personal finance, cost benefit analysis, critical path analysis and rates of change. The course helps to develop students' mathematical skills and thinking and supports courses such as A-level Psychology, Business Studies, Sciences and Geography, as well as technical and vocational qualifications. It involves high levels of problem solving and encourages students to consider the world around them and apply this knowledge and their skills to real life scenarios. This qualification forms part of a national drive to raise standards in mathematics by offering a complementary course that will encourage all students to study mathematics in some form until they are 18.
