The course is 60% practical and 40% written examination. Over the two year course, you will: • Create, perform and respond to drama and theatre • Develop the creativity and independence to become effective theatre makers • Explore the relationship between theory and practice in a range of theatrical styles and periods and historical, social and cultural contexts • Learn how relevant research, independent thought and analysis of live theatre production can inform decision making in their practical work and put this understanding into practice • Experience the ways in which theatre makers collaborate to create theatre. You will learn about the theatrical processes and practices involved in interpreting and performing theatre, exploring how conventions, forms and techniques are used in drama and live theatre to create meaning. You will also learn how creative and artistic choices influence how meaning is communicated to an audience. Through studying the two set texts, you will learn how performance texts are constructed to be performed, conveying meaning and how they are informed by their social, cultural and historical contexts and are interpreted and performed for an audience. It is a two year developmental course. In the first year, you will develop your higher level skills in acting and devising and study a 20th century set text. In the second year you will study a second set text written before the century and perform two plays (one devised; one scripted) to a visiting examiner. You will also study four live performances as a member of the audience, one of which you will choose to answer a question on in the examination.
