Sports (Performance and Excellence - Basketball) - Level 3 (Extended Diploma)

This course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in the sport and active leisure industry as well as develop their basketball playing ability and skills for developing athletes. The Extended Diploma is designed for students who want to study sport in both a theoretical and practical manner to a high challenging academic level equivalent to 3 A-levels allowing for progression to university if the student desires. Students will combine this course with developing themselves as a Basketball Player as part of our Elite Basketball Programme. Alongside the main qualification students will develop other employment and personal development skills ready for the world of work. Students also have opportunities to undertake volunteering through the Lead to Employability programme. There may also be opportunities for students to gain sports coaching and fitness instructor qualifications funding permitting. Students will work towards the following modules: Year 1 Students will complete the Subsidiary Diploma in Sport Anatomy and Physiology Physiology of Fitness Fitness Testing Fitness Training and Programming Assessing Risk in Sport Sports Nutrition Rules, Regulations and Officiating Year 2 Students will specialise in the Diploma in Sports Performance and Excellence Sports Coaching Analysis of Sports Performance The Athletes Lifestyle Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport Sports Psychology Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise Year 3 Students will specialise in the Extended Diploma in Sports Performance and Excellence Profiling Sports Performance Practical Team Sports Sports Injuries Talent ID and Development in Sport Organising Sports Events Sport as a Business
