Uniformed and Emergency Services - Level 3

This course is for young people considering a career in the uniformed or emergency services, or who have aspirations for higher education studies and potential commissions in the armed forces. Typical units include: Leadership, Expedition Skills, Citizenship, The Uniformed Services, Physical Preparation and Human Behaviour. The course may also include lectures from various guest speakers and trips to service establishments, adventure training, mock entry assessment days & sponsored challenges. Progression to year 2 will be dependent on performance in year 1 (attendance & achievement). Year 2 learners will have the opportunity to apply to take part in a 4 week foreign exchange with our partners in the Netherlands - this is fully funded. In the second year, typical units include: the Uniformed Services, Leadership, Physical Prep, Expedition Skills, Human Behaviour, Citizenship, Diversity in the Public Services, International Perspectives, Data Interpretation, Understanding the Public Sector, Law & the Legal System, Health & Fitness, Nautical Skills, Signals & Communication, Teamwork in the Public Services, Criminology, Dealing with Accidents, Discipline in the Public Services. A 3 year study programme will be considered dependent on student needs. Physical training is a mandatory part of the curriculum and is designed to help students increase their levels of fitness in order to ensure they have the ability to successfully participate in a Uniformed Services fitness test. Visits to service establishments may include local fire, police, ambulance stations, police firearms, Wymondham Police HQ, Colchester Garrison (Army), Wayland Prison, RAF Marham, RAF Honington, Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, HMS Bristol in Portsmouth & HMS Belfast. Overnight Exercises involving all students take part periodically at, e.g, RAF West Raynham, Thetford Forest, Thorpe Woodland & local areas. Visits abroad on adventure training such as Ardeche in France may also be available.
