Motor Vehicle - Service and Repair - Level 1

UPDATED 20161028 09:44:27

This qualification is designed to engage and motivate those who are interested in learning about the maintenance of motor vehicles and the various roles that are available in the retail motor industry. The qualification has a practical approach to assessment and includes many visual questioning techniques which will stimulate and interest the learner. The learning outcomes are assessed by a variety of task based assessment, observation, oral questioning and online assessments. During the course the students are given the opportunity to work on real life customers' cars. You will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning, because this helps you to develop the skills to be mature and independent at work. You will be expected to be keen and interested enough to work hard without being continually monitored. You will also be expected to become more self-reliant and better organised as the course progresses. At the start of each unit the lecturer will explain to you about the unit - what teaching and learning you will experience and how you will be assessed. In order to pass the IMIAL Level 1 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification, candidates must demonstrate its learning outcomes by following 3 assessment components - IMI Awards Practical Assessments (or centre devised alternatives) - IMI Award Online External Testing - IMI Awards Phase Tests (or centre devised alternatives) A minimum of 60% of each unit's learning outcomes must be achieved by the candidate completing practical activities in a workshop-based environment. A range of assessment methods should be used to assess the learning outcomes not covered by the practical assessments. The assessment methods selected for each unit should be appropriate to its aims, level of work and the learning outcomes to be achieved. These qualifications support the delivery of theory, but all opportunities should be taken to support this with practical instruction and/or demonstration.
