All pupils follow the Edexcel GCSE in Maths with 2 levels of entry:- Higher level - grades 4 - 9, Foundation level - grades 1 - 5. Pupils study a range of topics within the subject content of Number and Algebra, Shape Space and Measures and Statistics and Probability, together with problem solving and maths in context within each of these topics. The course followed will enable students to apply their mathematical knowledge to other subjects, particularly sciences and technology, in order to meet the demands of society. Assessment - 3 linear exams - 100%. There are 3 papers for each tier of entry, each equally weighted, which will be taken at the end of the course. Paper 1 - non calculator paper. Paper 2 - Calculator paper. Paper 3 - Calculator paper. Careers needing maths include those offered in the manufacturing industry, engineers, craftsmen, technicians, clerical work, the retail trade, agriculture, the construction industry, hotels and catering, work with computers and nursing. Maths is also important for those people wishing to continue into further and higher education.
