The course is comprised of three papers. Paper 1 is Introduction to Philosophy and Theology covering compulsory content, including Foundational debates in Philosophy, Foundational debates in epistemology, Ethics, The nature of belief and Conscience, free will and determinism. Paper 2 is Philosophy of Religion and covers Arguments for the existence of God, Religious Experience and Religion, science, evil and life after death. The key texts studied in detail are John Polkinghorne Science and Creation: The Search for Understanding and John Hick Evil and the God of Love. Paper 3 is Ethics and covers Christian ethics (including Natural Law, Situation Ethics). Other ethical theories (including Utilitarianism, Virtue ethics and Kantian ethics) and Applied ethics (including Medical ethics and Business ethics. The key texts studied in detail are John Stuart Mill Utilitarianism and Jean-Paul Sartre: Existentialism and Humanism.
