Course comprised of two units. The first unit is design and manufacture, covering three sections. Section A materials and components, section B design and market influence, section C processes and manufacture. Topics include Major developments in technology, product life cycle, the influence of design and technology in society, the role of the designer, the marketing function, design processes, safety legislation, illustration, selection and use of appropriate 2D 3D techniques, human factors, and the work of past and present designers, sustainability and environmental concerns. The second unit is design and making practice. For the coursework students create a major design with portfolio and manufactured outcomes.
