Who decides what the law is? When can you use self-defence? If you find money can you keep it? Are judges too lenient in sentencing the guilty? What do solicitors and barristers do? What is manslaughter? How do I sue someone if I am injured? Law is a vital part of our society and affects all our lives. In some form or other it is always in the news. If you are interested in finding answers to these questions and developing your knowledge and analytical skills then Law is the choice for you. You will explore and analyse a wide range of issues and problems gaining a thorough understanding of how the legal system and gain a detailed knowledge of specific areas of English Law. You will also consider broader issues such as whether the law does and should reflect morality and how the law represents blameworthiness. The course includes visits to magistrates’ court and the Old Bailey as well as visiting speakers.
