This course will enable students to gain a broad understanding of child care issues, through classroom-based studies and placement experience, helping them develop knowledge and skills that are highly valued by employers. The course is divided into 6 units of study . 5 mandatory units and 1 optional. Students will also undertake a minimum of 300 hours assessed work experience in a variety of early year's settings, which will be arranged by the College. The mandatory units are: , Understanding Children's Development , Keeping Children Safe , Communication with Children and Adults , Preparing and Maintaining Environments for Child Care , Professional Development, Roles and Responsibilities in Child Care. The optional unit studied is: , Supporting Children's Playing and Learning Students also undertake a qualification in Paediatric First Aid. Students must also undertake a minimum of 300 hours assessed work experience in a variety of early years settings, which will be arranged by the college.
