The College offers the opportunity to study at level 3 (A level equivalent) for students who wish to develop a comprehensive understanding of animal management and biology - encompassing practical techniques, academic knowledge and technical skills. It is a popular option for both school leavers and successful Level 2 Diploma students. The course incorporates a mix of practicals, classroom lectures, industry visits and case study exercises. Students enjoy the wide variety of theory and practical subjects combined with a range of projects and assessments. Students will also receive training and assessment in a large range of additional qualifications, which will enhance their employability. A work experience placement takes place one day per week and visits to animal related enterprises form an integral part of the course. The course prepares students for supervisory and junior management positions in the animal industry or for progression to a range of Higher Education degree and foundation degree courses. Students must attend a relevant placement in the animal industry, for example, veterinary practice, boarding kennel, pet retail organisation or canine grooming parlour. The placement is carried out each Monday in the first year of the course. Employment opportunities in Animal Management and its related industries are currently very good. The Subsidiary, Diploma and Extended Diploma Animal Management provide the qualification and experience for entry into the industry. Students who successfully complete the course may wish to take up employment in one of the following industries: Pedigree breeder, Pet shop, Animal Rescue, Quarantine establishment, Animal Trainer, Zoo, Animal beautician, Kennel / cattery, Trade supplier, Animal collection, Animal welfare officer.
