Context The Level 3 BTEC Certificate in Work Skills is designed to provide: opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised qualification to enter and progress in employment the knowledge, understanding and skills learners need to progress in employment. opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life. Units Assessment Learners must achieve a minimum of 18 credits. The work is practical based and is over two years. There are two foci -a. enterprise and b. work experience. The enterprise elements are covered from September through to March in Year 12 and include the following units Students will be organised into 'companies' as part of the Enterprise activity and entered into the Young Dragons competition organised by the MEBP and Young Enterprise, the Internationally-based competition. A variety of assessment methods are used, including assignments, tasks, short tests, case studies and work-based assessments, along with projects and performance observation. Practical application of the assessment criteria in a realistic scenario should be emphasised and maximum use made of practical work experience. Career / Higher Education Links - Employability skills are a top priority for businesses. 82% of the firms who responded to a 2014 education and skills survey said it was the most important consideration when recruiting graduates .Work Skills helps equip learners with these essential skills to function in employment and in life. Employers such as Coca Cola, Deloitte and McDonalds wholeheartedly support what learning programmes, such as Work Skills, can bring to learners and regularly highlight that having a workforce who are prepared for work and engaged in learning is a huge advantage.
