Context This post-16 qualification teaches generic leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through the medium of sport. It is a fun and practical qualification with no entrance requirements or final examinations to sit. All candidates will undertake a first aid course as part of this qualification, and must also complete 10 hours demonstration of leadership within the community. What you will study The Sports Leaders Award is allocated 2 lessons per week, where you will study the following units: Unit 1- Plan, lead and evaluate a sport / activity session Unit 2- Develop leadership skills Unit 3- Lead a session to improve fitness Unit 4- Adapting sports activities Unit 5- Establish and maintain a safe sport / activity session Unit 6- Organise and deliver a sports event or competition Unit 7- Pathways in sport and recreation How You Will Be Assessed All candidates will undertake a first aid course as part of this qualification, and must also complete 10 hours demonstration of leadership within the community. In this one-year course, you will be required to complete small written tasks within each unit and will then assessed in practical situations, using you newly-acquired skills. All students will also be required to volunteer for 1 hour on a weekly basis to support the coaching/leading of extra-curricular sports clubs or PE lessons.
