Context This course will equip you with the practical skills and knowledge needed to begin professional work in a range of Health and Social Care settings or for higher education. You will study a number of mandatory units as well as a range of optional units and will also benefit from gaining work experience in the sectors if you follow the Double Award. Work experience will be one day each week for sixteen weeks during year 13 involving three different health and social care settings to provide you with a wide range of experience within the sector. These opportunities will aid career choices. The course content is delivered in a creative way enabling you to be as active, practical and work-related as possible. Alongside this, it provides robust opportunities for you to gain knowledge and understanding of a wide range of subject areas relating to health and social care. The Diploma is equivalent to 2 GCE A Levels. What you will study The specification is divided into units, each covering different key concepts of Health and Social Care: Extended Certificate Units (4 Units): Unit 1 Human Lifespan Development Unit 2 Working in Health & Social Care Unit 3 Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs Unit 4 Sociological Perspectives Diploma Units (8 Units): (in addition to those above) Unit 5 Enquiries in Current Research in Health and Social Care Unit 7 Work experience in Health and Social Care Unit 12 Principles of Safe Practices in Health and Social Care Unit 13 Promoting Public Health With the international recognition of BTEC courses such as this, you can progress straight into employment. If successful there are a variety of prospective careers that you can explore, all of which will benefit from your studies, for example: Care Worker, Social Worker, Nurse, Teacher etc.
