Music: Linear A Level Y12 Overview Unit 1: Influences on Music Candidates will acquire, explore and apply musical language and context by the consideration of: - The Western Classical Tradition - British Popular Music from 1960 to the present day. Through the exploration of these and a set work, candidates will develop an understanding of: - the organisation of sounds (form, harmony, instrumentation and timbre, melody, rhythm and metre, texture and tonality) - the context of music (composer, performer and audience, occasion, time and place) - musical styles and genres. Unit 2: Composing (Creating musical ideas) Candidates will demonstrate their ability to create and develop musical ideas with technical control and expressive understanding, making creative use of musical devices, conventions and resources in response to a brief. Unit 3: Performing (Interpreting musical ideas) Candidates offer two performances chosen from a list of techniques. Candidates may perform their own composition if this makes sufficient technical and expressive demands on the candidate.
