The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) is a teaching qualification aimed at those already in a teaching or training position. 'Teaching/Training' refers to a wide range of situations and need not be in a formal education establishment (e.g. those who deliver staff training within their place of work). All candidates must have access to 100 hours of teaching. Candidates who successfully complete this qualification will take an analytical, reflective and practical approach to all aspects of planning, delivering and assessing inclusive teaching and learning. Whilst doing this, candidates will embed theories and principles in education and training and demonstrate them in their practice. The qualification is delivered over two academic years, one evening per week for three and a half hours. The last part of the session is usually given over to tutorials and 1-1 support. There are eight observations to undertake over the qualification; four in year one and four in year two. To achieve the DET you will need to pass all theory assignments and evidence good teaching and learning within the observations.
