GCE A Level in Further Mathematics

This AS and A level course is designed for those who wish to extend the Maths they learnt at school and/or progress to higher education. From September 2017, these are going to be linear courses consisting of 4 papers. You will complete 2 at the end of Year 1 and the other 2 at the end of Year 2. When you successfully pass all 4 papers you will be awarded the full A-level. You will study 3 components per paper starting with 2 compulsory modules of Pure Maths plus 1 module of either Statistics or Decision Maths with the same pattern repeated in Year 2. It is also possible to achieve an A-level in Further Mathematics by studying a further 6 modules including 3 further modules of Pure Maths plus 2 modules of mechanics and 1 module of statistics or decision Maths. Pure Maths topics include: Algebra, Functions, Co-ordinate Geometry, Sequences and Series, Trigonometry, Differentiation, Integration, Exponentials, Logarithms, Complex Numbers, Vectors, Matrices and Transformations. Mechanics topics include: Vectors, Forces, Newton's Laws of Motion, Connected Particles, Moments, Centers of Mass, Projectiles, Kinematics, Circular Motion, Work, Energy and Power. Decision Maths topics include: Algorithms, Graphs and Networks, Spanning Tree Problems, Shortest Paths in Network, Travelling Salesperson Problem, Linear Programming. Statistics topics include: Confidence Intervals, Probability, Probability Distributions, Correlation and Regression, Hypothesis Testing. You can also have access to UKMT Maths challenge, every day lunch time walk in session. Trips may also be arranged to such places as, Woolsthorpe Manor (Newton's house), and Practical Insights into Maths by TTP professionals.
