Moving on with Life and Living Skills

This course is aimed at students who are academically achieving above Entry 2 in Functional Skills and wish to develop their emotional wellbeing social communication and understanding, knowledge and understanding of the world and supported employment skills. There would be a focus on student led learning and choice making to help with their choices in the future. This would include opportunities to consider the next steps in their life and transition to next placements including visits or short link taster courses. Students would be encouraged to develop independence through travel training and independent shopping. Vocational learning would be part of the curriculum offer developing employment skills and experiences. They would be developing knowledge of skills needed for 21st century employment using ICT. Students would also work on financial management to enable them to manage their money more independently. Leisure skills would be aimed at helping students to make healthy leisure choices in terms of exercise and food. The curriculum offer: For the first two years modules are included in the areas of communication, numeracy, ICT, environment and community, home management, the world of work, personal skills and creative arts. The final year study is focussed on preparing them through intense work on managing their own emotional well-being and social understanding for the point where the student is able to manage in mainstream environments. Functional and Employment skills would be offered as qualifications at Entry level or Level 1 .We would aim to develop knowledge and understanding of employment skills through extended semi supported work experiences and independent travel through travel training. Students will be attending link courses to education placements, will be supported in their transition to next placement, develop independent shopping and financial management skills. There may be opportunities to complete a supported DoE Bronze award .
