Development of Life and Living Skills

This course is aimed at students who are developing their regulation of emotional wellbeing, basic social communication and understanding. They would be developing functional maths and literacy whilst also working on developing knowledge and understanding of the world and supported vocational employment skills including independently completing tasks. There would be support to transition to next placements. Each year modules are included in the areas of communication, functional numeracy, ICT, environment and community, home management, the world of work, personal skills and creative arts. This curriculum involves developing many practical skills to develop independence in cooking, shopping, cleaning, leisure activities, horticulture and animal care. This may be supported by simple written or pictorial schedules to develop independence. A continued focus on functional communication and maths skills are incorporated in the work which occurs both on and off site to generalise skills and understanding. Students will be encouraged to learn how to make choices and understand the consequences of choice making. Basic financial management would be included to enable them to be as independent as possible in shopping and living .Work placements and transition to new placements would be included in this course. There may be opportunities to complete a supported DoE Bronze award .
