Further Mathematics is an enjoyable, stimulating and rewarding subject to study. It extends and develops the study of pure and applied mathematics begun at A Level Mathematics. The course focuses on solving problems, looks how certain methods can be applied in areas such as engineering and computing, and looks in depth at applied modules. It is intended for those with a particular interest in, and aptitude for, the subject and recommended for those who intend to study Mathematics at University. Those with an interest in engineering, physics and natural sciences will also find the course useful. Universities value a qualification in Further Mathematics very highly and you will gain a head start in your undergraduate studies. The entry requirement for Further Mathematics is a grade A at GCSE, in addition students must also study Mathematics. TOPICS STUDIED: Further Pure 2: Differentiating inverse and Integration of trigonometric functions, Hyperbolic functions, Series and integrals, Mechanics 2: The motion of projectiles, Work, energy and power, Centre of mass, Impulse and restitution, Strategies for problem solving. Statistics 2: Continuous random variables, Normal and Poisson distribution, Hypothesis testing: continuous and discrete variable. ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE: Examinations in each of the modules Further Pure 2, Mechanics 2 and Statistics 2.
