Economics

UPDATED 20161021 14:53:01

Economics is an exciting and dynamic social science which examines how individuals, governments and societies make choices given scarce resources. It is used to analyse a host of global and topical problems. Economics is best thought of, as one economist joked, as 'What Economists Do'. At AS you study two units. In 'Markets and Market Failure' you will study the economic problem and how resources are allocated in competitive markets, analysing what happens when markets fail and how governments intervene within a failing market. In 'The National Economy' you will study topics such as measuring macroeconomic performance, how a macroeconomy works, how to judge economic performance and how that influences macroeconomic policy.
