Fashion and Garment Making Award Level 1

This course will provide you with the skills to explore fashion design ideas and sample garment-making techniques. You will be able to learn how to use the sewing machine and its' accessories to make button-holes, piping, tucks, applique and decorative stitching and you will learn about the elements of design including use of colour, line and texture. Finally you will learn how to construct a simple garment using the techniques learnt. This course will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills to progress to a higher level of study within this or other art, design and craft disciplines. You will learn through practical tasks which will first be demonstrated and explained by the tutor. Your tutor will give you feedback to help you to improve. The tasks will build to form a portfolio of work. You will be given clear assignments which will be tracked as you progress throughout the course. You will be given verbal feedback throughout and written feedback at regular intervals. There are no examinations. Additional Support in English, maths and with your language skills is available if needed. On successful completion of the course you will achieve a Level 1 Award in Creative Craft. This course will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills to progress to a higher level of study within this or other art and craft disciplines. You may want to broaden your skills.
