(Biology is the study of life - from molecules and cells to interactions between organisms and the environment. As well as developing their knowledge and understanding, students will learn skills to make connections and associations between all living things. At AS the topics covered are: Biological molecules, cells, organisms exchange substances with their environment and Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms. A full A level covers those topics as well as: Energy transfers in and between organisms, Organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments, Genetics, populations and ecosystems and the control of gene expression. Students will conduct practical activities throughout the course to develop their investigative and analytical skills. Students are assessed via external examination. There are two exam papers for AS Biology and three exam papers for A Level Biology. For AS level there are six assessed practicals and for an full A level there are twelve assessed practicals. After Biology A Level, students can take Biology or other Life science-related degrees at university. The skills acquired in Biology A Level can be used for other degrees too.)
