A2 History students study two units; Russia and its Rulers 1855-1964 and Interpretations and Investigations based on the Vietnam War. Russia and its Rulers is a synoptic unit based on themes in Russian history such as government, economy or warfare and revolution. Students have assessed and evaluated the role of the Tsars and Communist leaders including Lenin, Stalin and Khrushchev related to the themes set. Students have to show a clear understanding of continuity or change across the period. The Interpretations and Investigations unit is heavily reliant on the historical skills of source analysis and evaluation. Students have to combine their historical skills with thorough and in-depth personal research to complete two pieces of coursework based on the Vietnam War.
