Supported Studies North East Transition Programme

UPDATED 20161020 11:53:58

This programme is designed for young people aged 16-19, with moderate learning difficulties, who require supported transition from school to college. The aim of the programme is to improve confidence, social skills and self-esteem in addition to developing English and maths. The N.E.T. programme runs at a dedicated centre (based on the Valley School site) close to the NHC Stevenage campus, but offers links to the main site on a weekly basis, to aid future transition. Learning support assistants will meet and greet you on arrival each day, and stay with the group all day - including for breaks and lunch. The timetable runs from 9-2.45pm, five days a week. You will learn through a variety of physical activity, participation, work experience and academic study. Some examples of the trips and visits you may take part in would be Fairland's Valley Team Building Events, Kew Gardens, Luton Hoo, Stockwell Park, Standalone Farm, bowling and many more. If it's appropriate you will undertake a work experience placement for a minimum of 30 hours during the year. Relevant placements are sourced that meet your interests and offer an appropriate level of support according to individual needs. You will be accompanied to interviews, receive job coaching and travel training, if needed. You will also participate in enterprise projects where they work in teams to develop products and services.
