UPDATED 20161020 10:12:06

Economics is the study of the factors that influence income, wealth and well-being. Economists try to explain how our world is organized to deal with the fundamental issue of scarce resources and the consequent choices that have to be made. It is a social science which incorporates Maths and statistics as well as having connections with the physical sciences and many other disciplines (politics, law, geography, psychology, history). What is brilliant about an economics qualification is how flexible it is when looking for jobs. Everyone will imagine that you are interested in finance and making lots of money in the City and, with economics, this is definitely a feasible option. However, there are also other options. The private sector offers numerous consultancy, media, auditing, trading, finance or banking jobs (the list is endless) along with numerous public sector jobs, HM Treasury, Education, politics). Economics is a growing subject and is very popular and well respected by universities. For example, Actuarial Science was in the Telegraph's list of top 10 degrees to study this year.
