AQA AS and A level Biology The specification studies a wide range of biological content to help prepare students for further study at University or for a career within the sciences. This will include human physiology, biochemistry and plant biology. As a result the specification contains a large amount of content which some students may struggle with. However we find the students get a good overview of all these areas which then best prepares them for the future. The specification also provides a good understanding of experimental techniques within the biology and allows students to develop skills using specialist equipment. The new required practical element means students will now be tested on these practical elements so a good understanding of the techniques and the equipment is essential to passing the course. The course last two years and is a linear qualification. In order to achieve the award, students must complete all exams in May/June in a single year. All assessments must be taken in the same series. To ensure that the students are rewarded for the biology skills and knowledge they've developed, the exams include: - accessible assessments allowing students of various abilities to shine - a choice of two essay questions giving students more opportunities to bring together knowledge of the whole specification (A-level only). The style of questions varies from paper to paper but ultimately assesses the student's ability to recall information and to apply this to different situations.
