The media is all-pervasive and incredibly powerful. GCSE Media Studies enables you to begin to understand, criticise and evaluate the media and its messages; think independently and create your own work. GCSE Media Studies is composed of three units. One is examined and the other two are coursework units. In this course, you will study these media forms: television, film, advertisements, magazines and multi-media technology. You will look at how they are produced, what they mean and for whom they are intended. You will learn about them from analysing media texts, researching on your own and producing your own media texts. You will develop a wide range of skills including the ability to analyse a variety of different texts, and to construct them in the same way that professional media makers do. GCSE Media Studies provides a sound basis for further studies in a variety of different areas such as film, TV, radio, drama and journalism. It is also an ideal preparation for any activity which requires creativity and teamwork. It is a good starting point for those interested in psychology and sociology too.
