There is no requirement in terms of having studied GCSE Film Studies, however, students are required to work independently on projects therefore organisation and motivation are key requirements. This course is most suitable for students who already have an interest in cinema. You will also need to be prepared to watch a variety of films, including foreign films. Students with the creative ability to plan storyboards, make their own films and carry out research tend to be the most successful. Candidates are expected to have a minimum of grade B in both English Language and English Literature. AS Level - You will learn how to analyse a variety of genres. You will learn to use film language. You will learn how micro features work together to produce cinematic experiences. The film industry, in terms of producers and audience responses, is also studied through an exploration of British Comedy and The Western. A2 Level - You will continue your study of audience responses through an examination of French New Wave, popular cinema and the critical study of a single film (eg Vertigo in 2013).
