Students who are particularly talented in creative and imaginative writing, whether that be fiction, non-fiction, poetry or script. They will need to be keen readers who are willing to take on the level of reading required in this A Level - it is not possible to study creative writing without studying other writers! Entrants are expected to have at least five A-C grades, including English Language and English Literature at B grade or above. In Year 12, students will undertake two AS modules: the first, assessed by exam, will ask students to produce texts based on practical writing scenarios. Students will be given a professional writing brief with specific contexts and students will then produce a piece to meet the brief. The second AS module will explore different types of creative writing and will result in the production of a coursework folder made up of two creative pieces and a commentary on those pieces. These may include: prose fiction, novels, flash fiction, prose non-fiction, website content, and memoir, poetry, and script. The exam makes up 40% of the AS grade, the coursework 60%.
