, Learn how to explore conventional and experimental approaches to portrait drawing and painting. The course will introduce proportion, scale, modelling of form, the figure in space, perspective and foreshortening. , , By the end of this course you should be able to:, , Make studies of the human head using a range of drawing and painting techniques., Select and use the appropriate drawing and painting media and materials., Produce life studies that demonstrate an awareness of scale, perspective and proportion., Experiment with different drawing materials to extend your range of options., Recognise the styles and techniques of fine artists who have worked from the human form., Work to health and safety guidelines., , There is no homework requirement for this course. Students who have completed the Improvers course or have the equivalent experience., , It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity for you to participate fully and get the most out of the course.

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils., , You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements.
