The Normans conquered an England which had been united under one crown for 100 years. The England which emerged as a constitutional monarchy after the Civil Wars and the glorious Revolution was a very different country., The course will study the many stages and twists and turns as the power of the King waxed and waned over time and the power of parliament gradually grew., The course also examines the importance of the English language in developing the concept of the nation state, as well as the relations between England and neighbouring nations., , , Students will be able to assess their learning from their notes and handouts, also through discussion, question and answer and tutor feedback. Suitable for all general interest students. No prior knowledge required.
