Pottery - Throwing and Handbuilding

On this Saturday course you will be able to try some simple pottery construction and decoration methods. You will make a hand built piece and get a chance to try the wheel. You will be introduced to and use a variety of surface decoration techniques including use of texture and slips. More experienced potters can devote the whole day to working on a project of their own devising with tutor support. , , By the end of this course you should be able to:, Understand and use a variety of hand building skills (coiling, pinching, soft and hard slab building, press moulding) to an appropriate level;, Describe the basic steps to throwing a simple bowl or cylinder;, Use a variety of surface decorating and glazing techniques to an appropriate level;, Be aware of and work to health and safety guidelines., ,

Entry requirements

Please wear old clothes and shoes. All pots are paid for by fired weight at a reasonable rate. Health and safety issues will be discussed and you will be instructed in the application of safe working practices. Basic equipment will be provided but you may want to build up your own selection of pottery tools as you progress.You will be able to return during other classes to glaze and collect fired work.
