A workshop by Timothy Leek for Tonbridge Adult Education to extend the participants' knowledge of the medium and offer something different exploring the notion of photography as art. The workshop will take place over three consecutive days and is intended for people with some knowledge of photography already., , This course is designed to extend participants knowledge of the medium and explore the notion of photography as art. Photography is an art form and can be seen in galleries all over the world. On this course you will be introduced to techniques and ways of seeing that will take you beyond mere representation. This will be will be a practical course giving participants creative opportunities, it will however move beyond the technical aspects of taking photographs and introduce participants to using the camera as an artist's tool to re-present the world through their creative image making. Focusing on the language and meaning of photography, participants will learn to photograph not just as a technical process, but as a creative form of communication., You will be based in a classroom with IT facilities and will go outside to make use of the vast visual resources that Tonbridge has to offer including fine historic buildings, a busy High Street and acres of parkland. You will use Photoshop Elements to manipulate images. The course will include practical lighting, post production and publishing techniques. It will also look at the history of photography as art, drawing inspiration form contemporary and past photographers. Participants will complete a final project, putting together everything they have learnt in a finished piece of artwork., , The course will combine practical exercises, giving participants hands on experience, independent learning and studio critique style feedback and one to one tutorial time.
